American Express Expands Airport Lounge Network Significantly
American Express announced new Centurion Lounges at Newark and London Heathrow, alongside major expansions for its Philadelphia and Houston lounges.

American Express is undertaking a significant expansion of its airport lounge network, announcing plans for new Centurion Lounges at Newark Liberty International Airport and London Heathrow. The company also revealed plans to substantially enlarge its existing lounge spaces at Philadelphia International Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.
The new lounge at Newark, set to open in Terminal A in 2027, will span over 30,000 square feet, making it the largest Centurion Lounge in American Express's network. This development will position American Express as the first credit card issuer to operate proprietary lounges at all three major New York City area airports, complementing existing locations at JFK and LaGuardia.
"Since opening our first Centurion Lounge more than a decade ago, we continue to find ways to meet the growing demand for our premium airport lounge experiences," said Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel. She noted that the Newark lounge is anticipated to be the network's largest.
Additionally, a new over 9,000-square-foot Centurion Lounge is planned for London Heathrow in Terminal 5, opening in 2028, which will be the company's second lounge at the airport. The Philadelphia lounge will double in size to over 12,000 square feet, and the Houston lounge will nearly triple to over 23,000 square feet, with renovations expected to conclude in 2027 and 2028, respectively.
