Americans Concerned About AI Despite Daily Use

A new survey conducted by Gallup reveals that despite the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) for everyday tasks, from finding recipes to researching work projects, its adoption does not alleviate American concerns about its societal impact. Approximately 68% of Americans who use AI daily reported feeling worried about the technology.

The study indicates that concern about AI is even higher among individuals who use it less frequently. These findings emerge amidst ongoing intense debates regarding the dangers of AI, its safety implications, and accusations of anti-competitive behavior, challenging the notion that adoption alone signifies public enthusiasm.

The Gallup survey, commissioned by Microsoft, has gathered results from 37 countries, interviewing approximately 1,000 people per nation between April and July. The comprehensive project is slated to expand to 140 countries.

According to Gallup, Western countries exhibit the highest levels of concern regarding AI. The United States leads in anxiety, with 74% of Americans reporting worry, and only 36% anticipate that AI will primarily benefit the country. Other affluent Western nations show a similar pattern of mixed sentiments regarding AI.
