AMTD Group and Xiaomi Corporation have announced that their jointly established entity, Insight Fintech, has successfully obtained a virtual banking license from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). The new virtual bank, Insight Virtual Bank, aims to drive innovation and improve accessibility in financial services.
The bank intends to offer user-friendly, innovative, and green finance solutions. It plans to leverage technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, and blockchain to enhance traditional banking services. A key focus will be to serve Xiaomi's extensive customer base and its entire supply chain, while benefiting from AMTD's local expertise in the financial services sector.
Both parent companies bring significant strengths to the venture. Xiaomi contributes its broad global experience, a strong position in the Internet of Things (IoT) sector, and a substantial base of mobile device users in Hong Kong. The company has developed its own fintech solutions and has prior experience launching online banking services in mainland China.
