Analysis of One Million Posts Highlights Prevalence of AI-Generated Content on Social Media
A study by AI-detection firm Pangram reveals that platform type significantly influences the volume of AI-generated content in user feeds.

New research from Pangram, an AI-detection firm, provides a quantitative look at the proliferation of AI-generated content across major social media platforms. By analyzing over one million posts collected via a browser extension over a two-month period, researchers found that the length of a post is a primary predictor of AI usage, with content exceeding 250 words being significantly more likely to be synthetic.
LinkedIn emerged as the platform with the highest frequency of AI content, with 30 percent of short-form and 41 percent of long-form posts identified as machine-authored. Medium followed closely, while X showed a stark divide: only 9 percent of short posts were AI-generated compared to 29 percent of long-form content.
Conversely, Reddit and Substack maintained the highest ratios of human-authored content. AI-generated posts on Reddit accounted for between 3 and 13 percent of the total, while Substack saw rates between 10 and 12 percent. These findings highlight a growing disparity in content authenticity across the digital landscape.
