UK-based biopharmaceutical company Ananda Pharma Limited announced that the first patient has been dosed in its ACTiON clinical trial. The Phase 2 study is investigating the efficacy and safety of MRX1, Ananda's proprietary CBD-based drug candidate, in treating patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN).

CIPN is a common and debilitating side effect of chemotherapy for which there are currently no effective therapies. It can significantly impact patients' quality of life and may necessitate dose reductions or interruptions of cancer treatment, potentially affecting treatment outcomes. An estimated 140,000 new CIPN cases occur annually in the UK alone.

The study, led by Professor Marie Fallon of The University of Edinburgh and funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), is a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover trial. It aims to enroll 92 participants and will assess MRX1's impact on quality of life and healthcare utilization, in addition to its safety and efficacy.

Ananda Pharma is also conducting another Phase 2 trial for MRX1, focusing on the treatment of endometriosis pain. The company develops regulatory approved cannabidiol medicines for complex, chronic conditions.
