Andrew HunzekerHesed joins 10x Science as first employee

10x Science, a Y Combinator startup, has appointed Andrew HunzekerHesed as its first employee. HunzekerHesed brings extensive engineering experience from firms including Grindr, Walmart, and Major League Baseball to the early-stage company.

10x Science is building AI-native software for scientific data analysis, with an immediate focus on proteomics and drug discovery. The company distinguishes its approach by emphasizing first-principles mathematics over standard industry implementations of generative AI. This focus on foundational scientific research was a primary factor in HunzekerHesed’s decision to transition from senior roles at larger tech companies.

In his first week, HunzekerHesed participated in an accelerated development sprint to deliver a solution for a pharmaceutical company within three days. The resulting software has since become a core component of the company's internal toolset.

As the company shifts from exploratory research to feature development for paying customers, HunzekerHesed will focus on the creation of core technological architecture. He notes that the transition to an early-stage startup offers a different technical challenge compared to scaling mature platforms, focusing on problem discovery rather than scaling existing systems.
