Android 16 becomes most used version among active devices
Google reports that Android 16 now accounts for 25.4% of all active Android devices, surpassing all other versions as of October.
Google released updated distribution figures for the Android operating system during its recent developer summit. The data confirms that Android 16 has reached a 25.4% share of the active device ecosystem, establishing it as the most widely used iteration of the software.
The statistics are derived from Android Studio data, tracking active devices that have connected to the Google Play Store within a seven-day window. Android 14 and 15 follow with 15.3% and 14.7% market shares respectively. Combined, Android 14 and newer versions now account for over 56% of the active install base.
Older versions remain in circulation, with Android 11 still powering 10.5% of devices. Meanwhile, the recently introduced Android 17 has achieved a 1.0% adoption rate. This data illustrates the ongoing fragmentation of the Android market, as users transition away from legacy software.
