Android 17 Beta Updates Taskbar App Display Logic
Google's Android 17 QPR1 Beta update modifies how the taskbar displays applications at its end. Instead of showing system-predicted apps, the taskbar will now feature user-recently used applications.

Google is introducing a change to the taskbar display in the upcoming Android 17 QPR1 Beta. Mishaal Rahman, Director of Google's Android Community Interaction, announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the predicted app suggestions at the end of the taskbar dock will be replaced.
Previously, the taskbar end would display apps the system predicted the user might open next. This could lead to frequent changes, potentially disrupting user workflow. The new approach prioritizes showing the two most recently used applications on foldable devices, and a similar logic may apply to other form factors.
The shift aims to provide a more stable and predictable user experience, making it easier for users to switch between documents, browsers, messaging apps, and productivity tools. This change is particularly beneficial for multitasking scenarios, enhancing efficiency.
The Android 17 QPR1 Beta is currently undergoing testing, and this taskbar modification is one of several anticipated updates. The final release date for Android 17 has not yet been specified by Google, but the beta phase offers insights into the evolving user interface.
