Animal Center's Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon Raises Funds for Orphaned Pets

Helen Woodward Animal Center hosted its 21st annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon at Del Mar Dog Beach in Rancho Santa Fe, California, on September 13, 2026. More than 50 dogs participated in the event, riding waves to support a charitable cause.

The event aimed to raise funds for orphaned pets under the care of the Helen Woodward Animal Center. Participants collected donations from sponsors based on their dogs' surfing performances, with proceeds directly benefiting the center's animal care and adoption programs.

Dogs of various breeds and sizes competed, with some trained surfers and others simply enjoying the ocean and the crowd. The event also drew spectators who came to cheer on the canine participants and support the center's mission.
