In a letter dated August 12, 2026, York University informed LCA that it had allegedly been cleared of animal mistreatment violations by the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) and affirmed its support for its primatology program.
LCA previously released an investigative report detailing the alleged suffering of nine macaques. The organization has called for the university to cease the program and for an investigation into the mistreatment allegations.
A spokesperson for York University has not yet issued a public statement in response to LCA's latest condemnation, but has previously stated that all research adheres to regulatory standards.
