Anthropic and Akamai Sign Multi-Billion Dollar Cloud Services Deal
AI firm Anthropic has agreed to spend $11.6 billion on cloud services from Akamai Technologies over seven years. The agreement also includes a warrant for potential equity in Akamai.
AI company Anthropic announced on September 24 that it will spend $11.6 billion on cloud services from Akamai Technologies over a seven-year period.
The deal also includes a warrant that could allow Anthropic to acquire up to a 5% stake in Akamai if certain spending thresholds are met. The companies have the option to expand the agreement by an additional $9 billion.
Akamai stated that the contract is expected to require approximately $5.5 billion in total capital expenditure. The company plans to increase its 2026 capital spending by about $1.7 billion to secure and pre-purchase components, including memory, for the deal.
The agreement aligns with Akamai's strategy to target AI inference workloads, offering GPUs for AI infrastructure and supporting distributed inference across its 4,400 edge locations.
