Anthropic Claude iOS App Adds Apple CarPlay Support
Anthropic has integrated Apple CarPlay support into its Claude iOS app, enabling users to engage in voice conversations with the AI assistant through their car's infotainment system without needing to handle their phone.
Anthropic has introduced Apple CarPlay support for the iOS version of its Claude AI application. This allows users to interact with the AI assistant via their car's infotainment system using voice commands, eliminating the need to operate a mobile phone while driving.
Apple previously enabled CarPlay to support third-party chatbot applications. To integrate with CarPlay, apps must adhere to Apple's specified voice control interface and use prescribed interface templates.
With the Claude app's CarPlay integration, users can ask questions and receive responses through their vehicle's system. However, the functionality currently does not extend to controlling other features of the car or iPhone. Furthermore, due to CarPlay's current limitations in supporting third-party wake words, users must still manually open the Claude app via the CarPlay interface before initiating voice conversations.
Once the Claude app is accessed within CarPlay, users will see a "Start hands-free conversation" interface. From here, new discussions can be started or recent chat history can be accessed. During a conversation, the interface offers controls for muting/unmuting the microphone and ending the call, along with visual cues indicating when Claude is listening or responding.
Claude joins a growing list of AI applications supporting CarPlay. OpenAI's ChatGPT was among the earlier third-party chatbots to receive this integration.
