Anthropic Introduces Rupee Pricing for Claude in India
AI company Anthropic has launched rupee-denominated pricing for its AI chatbot Claude in India. This move simplifies payments for local users in its second-largest global market.

Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has introduced pricing in Indian rupees for its AI chatbot Claude within India. Users can now pay for subscriptions using the local currency instead of U.S. dollars, deepening the company's engagement in its second-largest global market.
The move reflects a broader trend of global AI firms localizing their offerings for India, where the adoption of generative AI tools has significantly increased among developers, startups, enterprises, and students.
With an estimated 5.8% to 7.2% share of Claude's global usage, India represents Anthropic's second-largest market after the United States. This has prompted the company to streamline payment processes for its Indian user base.
According to the updated pricing on Claude's website, the Pro plan is set at ₹2,000 per month when billed annually, while the Max plan starts at ₹11,999 per month. Team subscriptions begin at ₹2,399 per user per month and offer expanded usage limits compared to the Pro plan.
Previously, Indian users were billed in U.S. dollars, often necessitating the use of international payment cards. The introduction of local currency pricing is expected to reduce payment friction and enhance the ease of subscription for both individual users and businesses.
The development aligns with Anthropic's broader expansion in India. Earlier this year, the U.S.-based company established its first India office in Bengaluru and appointed Irina Ghose as its managing director to oversee local operations, enterprise partnerships, and talent acquisition.
