Anthropic Introduces Rupee Pricing in India for Claude to Boost Adoption
AI firm Anthropic has launched rupee-linked pricing for its Claude service in India, aiming to reduce payment friction and deepen its market penetration in the country.
Artificial intelligence company Anthropic is rolling out localized pricing in Indian Rupees for its Claude AI model to increase adoption in India, its second-largest global market.
The new pricing structure aims to streamline the purchase process for Indian users by eliminating the need to pay in US dollars. The offerings include a Pro plan at ₹2,000 per month, a Team plan at ₹2,399, and an enterprise-grade Max tier starting at ₹11,999, all inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
India currently represents a significant portion of Claude's global usage, estimated between 5.8% to 7.2%. This move aligns with Anthropic's broader expansion strategy in India, which includes opening its first local office in Bengaluru and appointing a country manager earlier this year.
The introduction of rupee pricing intensifies competition with rivals like OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft, which are also focusing on localized offerings and expanding their reach in the Indian AI market. Domestic players such as Sarvam AI are also presenting strong competition with AI models tailored for local needs.
