Anthropic Localizes Claude AI Pricing for India
AI company Anthropic has begun localizing pricing for its Claude AI in India, the company's largest market after the United States. Users in India are now seeing subscription plans denominated in Indian rupees.

Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has started localizing the pricing for its Claude AI service in India. This move marks a significant step for the company, as India represents its largest market outside of the U.S. Users in the country are beginning to see subscription plans priced in Indian rupees.
The localization of pricing has been a long-standing request from Claude users in India. Previously, U.S. dollar-denominated pricing and currency conversion fees created friction for accessing the service. While local pricing is now rolling out, Anthropic has not yet enabled payments through India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI), the country's widely adopted instant payment system. Users are currently required to pay via credit card or through app store billing systems.
This strategic adjustment comes as global AI companies increasingly focus on tailoring their offerings for the Indian market. OpenAI, a competitor, already offers ChatGPT with pricing in Indian rupees and supports UPI payments. Anthropic's decision to localize its pricing underscores its commitment to engaging with the Indian user base, which already accounts for a substantial portion of Claude's global usage. Reports indicate that India comprises approximately 5.8% of Claude's global user activity.
