Anthropic recruits Monzo cofounder Tom Blomfield for AI compute team
AI company Anthropic has hired Monzo cofounder Tom Blomfield to join its AI compute team. Blomfield is taking a leave of absence from his role at Y Combinator.
AI firm Anthropic has recruited Tom Blomfield, a cofounder of the challenger bank Monzo, to its artificial intelligence compute team. Blomfield announced the move on social media, stating he would take a leave of absence from his position as a group partner at startup accelerator Y Combinator.
Blomfield, who has been with Y Combinator since 2021, indicated that his work at Anthropic would focus on the AI compute team, collaborating with cofounder Tom Brown. He emphasized the growing importance of compute availability as AI progresses, particularly in relation to recursive self-improvement.
The recruitment signifies Anthropic's ongoing global expansion and its aggressive pursuit of top talent in the competitive AI landscape. The company has recently established new offices across Europe and has been actively hiring engineers and researchers from various institutions.
Blomfield previously served as CEO of Monzo after cofounding the UK digital bank in 2015. Following his departure from Monzo in 2020, he became a prominent figure in the European startup ecosystem as an investor and mentor. His move to Anthropic marks a shift towards focusing on the core infrastructure of advanced AI development.
