Anthropic Releases Claude Opus 5 for Coding and General Office Tasks
Anthropic has launched its new AI model, Claude Opus 5, claiming performance comparable to its more advanced Fable 5 model at half the price. The model is designed for both complex coding and general office work.

AI company Anthropic has released its new Claude Opus 5 model, stating it offers performance comparable to its more advanced Fable 5 model for half the cost. The model is designed to handle both complex coding tasks and general office work.
According to Anthropic, Opus 5 can work through multi-step problems with less user interaction, check its own work, and recover from errors without stalling. The company describes it as their strongest model yet for general knowledge work, showing improvements over its predecessor, Opus 4.8, in demanding coding tasks.
This release is part of Anthropic's broader strategy to expand Claude's capabilities beyond chat and code generation. The aim is to support a wider range of professional tasks including design, marketing, accounting, and large-scale document analysis.
Opus 5 is priced at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens. Anthropic is also offering a "fast mode" that doubles the cost for faster token generation, available as a research preview to API users for data collection.
