Anthropic Releases Faster, Cheaper Sonnet 5.5 AI Model
AI firm Anthropic has released a new version of its mid-tier AI model, Sonnet 5.5. The company states the model is faster and more cost-effective than its predecessor.
AI company Anthropic has released Sonnet 5.5, a new iteration of its mid-tier artificial intelligence model. According to the company, the model is faster and less expensive to operate than the previous Sonnet 5 version.
The Sonnet 5.5 model is designed for general tasks such as coding and creating office documents. Anthropic states that the model is 30% faster than its predecessor and exhibits a slower token consumption rate. In internal benchmarks, Sonnet 5.5 also reportedly outperformed Anthropic's higher-tier Opus 5.5 model on agentic coding tasks.
Anthropic also indicated that Sonnet 5.5 incorporates cybersecurity capabilities comparable to its Opus 5 model. This update makes Sonnet 5.5 the first model in the Sonnet series to be subject to the same safety protocols applied to Anthropic's Fable and Opus models.
The company has previously outlined its approach to managing increasingly capable AI systems in its Responsible Scaling Policy. Anthropic plans to release an updated version of its Haiku model in the coming weeks, amidst ongoing model releases from competitors like OpenAI and Meta.
