Anthropic reports monthly personnel costs exceeding $100,000 per employee

Updated S-1 filings reveal that AI firm Anthropic’s per-employee costs have reached six figures, driven largely by significant stock-based compensation.

2 November 2026

Anthropic’s latest pre-IPO disclosures highlight the significant financial investment the AI company is making in its workforce. During the third quarter, the firm incurred $1.7 billion in personnel costs for its 5,300 employees, averaging over $322,000 per staff member for the three-month period.

The bulk of these expenses stems from equity-based compensation, which accounted for $1.1 billion of the quarterly personnel costs. Despite this massive expenditure, Anthropic’s revenue growth has outpaced the increase in staffing costs. While personnel expenses were more than double the company's revenue in 2023, that figure has declined to 15% of total revenue during the first nine months of 2026.

The company explicitly prioritizes talent density over sheer headcount. Although the workforce has grown fivefold since the end of 2024, it remains significantly smaller than industry peers like Meta or Broadcom. According to Anthropic, it generates approximately $6.6 million in revenue per employee, a metric that surpasses current estimates for industry leaders like Google and Meta.
