Anthropic revenue rises to $16.8bn ahead of stock market listing
AI firm Anthropic reported a 45% surge in revenue to $16.8bn for the quarter ending September. The figures were revealed as the company briefs potential investors ahead of an expected year-end stock market debut.

AI giant Anthropic saw its revenue increase by 45% to $16.8bn (£12.7bn) for the three months ending September, the BBC has learned. The figures were reportedly shared by the Claude-developer as it briefed prospective investors on Wednesday at its San Francisco headquarters. Anthropic is laying the groundwork for what is anticipated to be a significant stock market listing by the end of the year.
The revenue surge comes amid pressure on some tech stocks, particularly those supplying hardware for data centers, due to concerns over substantial AI infrastructure spending. Anthropic has shown consistent revenue growth throughout the year, rising from $4.7bn in the first quarter to $11.6bn in the second.
The revenue figures from Anthropic, along with those from rival OpenAI, serve as a key indicator of the AI industry's expansion and its capacity to fund the necessary development infrastructure. OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, is also planning a major stock market debut, with expectations that the company could be valued at over $1tn.
However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated in September that the company would not go public this year, citing ongoing work to address safety concerns related to the technology. A spokesperson for Anthropic declined to comment on the reported figures.
