Anthropic's AI model, Claude, has successfully been deployed on AMD's new MI355X GPU hardware without the need for human engineers to modify any code, according to IT Home.

The reported process involved AMD delivering a rack of MI355X processors to Anthropic. The AI model was then tasked with setting up and running on the new hardware. Over a single weekend, Claude reportedly completed the task and continued to improve performance without manual intervention.

This development could pose a challenge to Nvidia's 20-year-old CUDA software ecosystem, which has dominated GPU programming. AMD's ROCm.AI toolkit, featuring AMD Skills and verified ROCm knowledge, is designed to allow AI to self-configure environments, load models, read logs, and troubleshoot.

AMD is also adapting its documentation, making its instruction set architecture (ISA) AI-readable for each new GPU generation. This enables AI agents, like Hyperloom, to directly optimize performance by interpreting technical manuals. Hyperloom has demonstrated significant performance improvements, such as a 38% increase in output speed for the MiniMax M3.

The company aims to train advanced models to integrate seamlessly with AMD hardware. This strategic shift suggests that future GPU development will not only focus on raw performance but also on AI's ability to understand and optimize the hardware, potentially accelerating the adoption of new architectures.
