Anthropologie Adds Nike to 200 Stores in Footwear Strategy Shift
Anthropologie has launched Nike footwear in 200 U.S. stores, focusing on deepening existing customer relationships rather than attracting new ones. This move aligns with a strategy to integrate shoes into apparel offerings.

Retailer Anthropologie has introduced Nike footwear into 200 of its U.S. stores this September, marking its largest footwear rollout to date. The initiative aims to leverage the established brand to enhance its connection with its existing customer base.
The strategy emphasizes integrating footwear as a complementary element to apparel, rather than a standalone category. Jessica Irick Peek, Anthropologie's general merchandise manager for footwear and accessories, stated that the company achieves its best footwear results by "tying it back to apparel." This approach mirrors previous campaigns, such as the Tecovas boot launch, which framed shoes as an essential finishing piece for an outfit.
This expansion into carrying prominent external brands like Nike follows a period of significant growth for Anthropologie's private label footwear. Sales for its own brands, including Maeve, have seen substantial increases over the past year, indicating an existing demand for footwear.
The partnership also appears mutually beneficial. Nike has been working to rebuild wholesale retail relationships after a previous focus on direct-to-consumer sales. With its stock value declining from its 2021 high and removal from the S&P 100 index in September 2026, Nike benefits from partnering with retailers like Anthropologie that offer significant foot traffic and a strong existing customer base.
