Aogebio Cosmetic has introduced Geogard ECT, a new, naturally derived preservative for cosmetic formulations. The ingredient offers broad-spectrum protection against microbial growth.

Aogebio Cosmetic has introduced Geogard ECT, a cosmetic preservative combining benzyl alcohol, salicylic acid, and glycerin. This blend is designed to prevent microbial growth in cosmetic products, thereby extending shelf life and ensuring consumer safety.
The Geogard ECT preservative is marketed towards brands focusing on 'Clean beauty' and sustainability. Its formulation, which also includes sorbic acid, provides broad-spectrum protection against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and mold. The ingredient is effective across a wide pH range of 3-8, making it versatile for various product formulations.
The manufacturer states that the ingredients have global regulatory acceptance in the US, Europe, and Japan at a recommended use level of 0.6-1.0%. Geogard ECT also meets COSMOS and Ecocert standards, which are highly regarded in the natural and organic cosmetics market, confirming its suitability for natural product manufacturing.
Research in cosmetic science has indicated that multi-ingredient preservative systems can be more effective than single-ingredient preservatives in combating a variety of microorganisms that can contaminate cosmetic products.
