APIA Scholars Awards Over $3.3 Million to New Scholarship Cohort

APIA Scholars has awarded over $3.3 million in scholarships to 493 new students for the 2026-2027 academic year. The organization is supporting more than 1,000 students pursuing higher education across the United States and the Pacific.

The new cohort highlights APIA Scholars' commitment to accessibility and representation for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) students, as well as other eligible recipients, with a focus on those most in need.

This year's group includes 90% first-generation college students, with 61% living at or below the federal poverty level. A total of 82 ethnicities are represented, an increase from 52 in the previous year.

"We are proud to welcome the new cohort, which represents the very best of our applicant pool," said Dr. Noël S. Harmon, President and Executive Director of APIA Scholars. "While we received over 7,900 applications, the 493 students awarded scholarships represent excellence and achievement. Our programs aim to expand opportunity and provide support for all students, regardless of their background."

Beyond scholarships, APIA Scholars offers support through initiatives like the Scholar Relief Fund and Career Development Fund. These programs provide students with financial flexibility for unexpected expenses and support for career advancement. The organization strives to build a strong foundation of skills and community for students on their college-to-career journeys. On average, APIA Scholars can only award scholarships to 6% of applicants annually, underscoring the need for continued support.
