APIGA Celebrates 10 Years of Developing Internet Leaders

The Asia Pacific Internet Governance Academy (APIGA) is celebrating a decade of preparing the next generation of internet leaders in the Asia-Pacific region. Since its launch in 2016, more than 359 participants from 32 countries have successfully completed the academy, building a growing network of professionals in internet governance.

The milestone was recognized during a special anniversary celebration held on July 24, 2026, at the 10th APIGA in Busan, South Korea. APIGA is an annual, five-day workshop focusing on internet governance and related issues. It is jointly organized by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the Korea Internet & Security Agency, along with regional internet organizations.

Through a hands-on, interactive curriculum, participants gain practical knowledge of internet operations and the bottom-up consensus model that shapes internet governance. The program aims to empower attendees to contribute meaningfully to internet governance discussions at local, regional, and global levels. In 2024, the program expanded with local APIGA initiatives, now established in ten economies to enhance youth engagement and regional participation.

As APIGA enters its second decade, it continues its focus on equipping the next generation to shape an open, secure, and stable internet. This initiative is part of ICANN's broader commitment to nurturing future internet leaders through youth engagement programs.
