APIGA Celebrates 10 Years of Developing Internet Leaders

The Asia-Pacific Internet Governance Academy (APIGA) is celebrating a decade of preparing young leaders for the future of the Internet in the region. Since its inception in 2016, the program has successfully trained more than 359 participants from 32 economies, fostering a growing network of future policymakers, technical experts, academics, civil society leaders, and Internet governance professionals.

The milestone was commemorated during a special anniversary ceremony held at the 10th APIGA meeting in Busan, South Korea, on July 24, 2026. The annual five-day workshop focuses on Internet and Internet governance topics, providing participants with practical knowledge of how the Internet functions and its multi-stakeholder governance model.

Organized jointly by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the Korea Internet & Security Agency, along with regional Internet organizations, APIGA aims to equip future leaders to contribute to a secure, stable, and accessible Internet. The program expanded in 2024 with the launch of local APIGA editions, bringing governance training closer to communities across the region.

As APIGA enters its second decade, it maintains its focus on shaping the next generation to contribute to an open, secure, stable, and interoperable global Internet. ICANN supports these efforts through broader youth engagement initiatives, including NextGen@ICANN.
