APP Group launches Sumatra forest conservation partnership
APP Group has partnered with a consortium including WWF-Indonesia, Proforest, and KKI WARSI to initiate large-scale land conservation efforts in Sumatra.

APP Group announced a multi-year conservation project focused on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The initiative, titled PROTECT30, seeks to implement landscape-scale environmental protections through a collaboration with environmental NGOs and forestry consultancy firm Proforest.
Working alongside WWF-Indonesia and the local community organization KKI WARSI, APP Group aims to establish a framework for forest-positive land management. The project seeks to address long-standing challenges regarding industrial activity and environmental preservation in the region.
The collaboration marks a shift in how APP Group approaches its regional footprint, emphasizing third-party oversight and multi-stakeholder governance. By integrating scientific guidance from the consortium, the project aims to stabilize natural habitats while maintaining industrial operations.
Industry analysts note that such partnerships are increasingly common as corporations face pressure to meet international sustainability standards. The initiative's success will depend on its ability to reconcile commercial interests with the specific environmental requirements of the Sumatran landscape.
