The deal involves Apple acquiring the entire issued share capital of PlasmaSolve and offering employment to some of its staff. PlasmaSolve, founded in 2016, develops simulation software designed to help companies optimize plasma-based manufacturing processes.
Their core product, MatSight software, allows manufacturers to simulate the outcomes of various metal vapor deposition processes. Apple has previously utilized similar vapor deposition techniques to create durable coatings on iPhone casings, improving scratch resistance during use.
This move suggests Apple's strategy to deepen its technical reserves in material science and coating technologies. PlasmaSolve's expertise could lead to advancements in the durability and aesthetics of future Apple products, particularly concerning device exteriors.
