Apple Addresses Screen Crease Concerns for New iPhone Duo
Apple has officially launched its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, with a starting price of 15,999 yuan and a release date of October 23. The company has addressed concerns about screen crease visibility through technological solutions.
Cupertino, California – Apple has officially unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo. In conjunction with the launch, Apple also commented on the common concern of screen creases in foldable devices, stating its aim to minimize their visibility through advanced technology.
According to Apple, the iPhone Duo's inner display is engineered to be "remarkably flat and smooth." The company is also employing a specialized nano-texturing process designed to reduce glare and reflections, thereby ensuring a seamless viewing experience. An optically clear adhesive allows the display layers to slide relative to each other as the screen folds, minimizing stress and crease formation.
Apple emphasizes that the nano-texturing technology, previously used in its high-end Studio Display and Pro Display XDR monitors, is being applied to a foldable phone screen for the first time. The stated goal of this technology is to "maximize the reduction of crease visibility," indicating that while the crease may not be entirely eliminated, its prominence has been intentionally reduced.
The iPhone Duo features a hinge mechanism composed of over 100 parts, developed in-house by Apple. The display is reported to be 40 percent more rigid than "other displays in the industry." The device incorporates titanium in its construction and meets IP68 standards for water and dust resistance. The phone will go on sale on October 23, with a starting price of 15,999 yuan.
