Apple and Samsung compete for creator-focused smartphone market

The competition for the flagship smartphone market has increasingly focused on professional creators, with manufacturers positioning devices as small-scale production studios. Apple entered the foldable segment on September 9 with the iPhone Duo, priced at $1,999. The device follows seven years after Samsung established the category with the Galaxy Fold, signaling a shift in Apple's hardware strategy to capture the creator demographic.

Samsung continues to emphasize software integration for content production in its Galaxy Z Fold8 series. The company’s focus remains on AI-driven camera features, such as My FanCam and Instant Slow Mo, which are designed to streamline video editing workflows. Notably, Samsung has engineered these tools to support footage captured on non-Galaxy devices, a move intended to attract users currently utilizing competing hardware.

Apple is countering this with hardware-focused productivity tools, specifically through the integration of the Apple Pencil and split-screen capabilities for managing complex workflows like shot lists and edit timelines. Market data suggests Samsung maintains a lead; the company reports that Galaxy Z Fold8 series purchases are tracking 30 percent ahead of the previous model, representing the majority of its current Z series sales.
