New York – Apple Inc. briefly became the world's most valuable publicly traded company on Monday, surpassing Nvidia. The tech giant's market capitalization reached $4.95 trillion as its shares rose 1.17%.
Nvidia's shares fell 4.99% by the end of the trading day, leaving its valuation at $4.77 trillion. The chipmaker had held the top spot for over a year.
Both companies are part of the so-called "Magnificent 7" group of technology stocks. This year, Apple has been the sole performer in this group to show significant growth, with its stock up 23.93% year-to-date. In contrast, many other members have seen declines; Microsoft is down 10.03% and Tesla has fallen 31.24%.
Apple's comparatively cautious approach to artificial intelligence development, compared to many other major tech firms, may be attracting investors. While competitors are making substantial investments in AI and increasing capital expenditures, Apple has maintained a more measured strategy, utilizing Google's AI models and cloud services, for instance.
The technology landscape is rapidly evolving, and this week is pivotal for several "Magnificent 7" companies as they release their quarterly earnings reports. Apple is scheduled to publish its results later this week.
