Apple-CXMT Chip Supply Talks Stall Over Pricing

Negotiations between Apple and China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) regarding a potential supply of mobile DRAM, including LPDDR5X for iPhones and other devices, have reportedly stalled due to disagreements over pricing.

Sources indicate that CXMT is pushing for prices at or above those quoted by established suppliers like Samsung Electronics and SK hynix. This stance contrasts with Apple's reported desire for lower costs. The Chinese chipmaker's firm position is said to be bolstered by significant orders from domestic manufacturers, including Huawei and Xiaomi, suggesting a strong existing customer base.

Despite the ongoing discussions, no formal supply agreement between Apple and CXMT has been announced. The outcome of these negotiations could impact Apple's supply chain diversification efforts and CXMT's position in the global memory chip market.

CXMT is one of China's few domestic manufacturers capable of producing advanced DRAM chips, positioning it as a key player in the country's efforts to reduce reliance on foreign technology.
