Apple Developing AI-Powered Indoor Camera for Environmental Analysis
Apple is developing an indoor camera, codenamed J450, that uses AI to analyze its surroundings and provide text-based descriptions to users. The device prioritizes privacy by not recording video of sensitive home environments.
Apple is reportedly developing a new indoor camera, internally codenamed J450, which will leverage artificial intelligence to analyze its surroundings. The device is designed to offer users text-based descriptions of what it detects, such as people or pets, rather than streaming video.
Key to the camera's design is a focus on privacy. It features low-frame-rate and infrared sensors that support facial recognition and the identification of other subjects. However, the system is intended to describe detected events verbally, ensuring it cannot record private moments within a home.
This new camera is expected to launch sometime next year, according to reports. It is not part of the recently announced Home Collection accessory line. Apple may also observe the sales performance of its Home Collection products before deciding on further own-brand smart home hardware releases.
