Apple developing iPhone-to-Windows clipboard feature for EU
Apple is developing a feature to enable copying and pasting content between iPhones and Windows PCs within the European Union.
Apple is working on a feature that will allow users in the European Union to copy content on their iPhone and paste it onto their Windows PC, and vice versa. This development comes in response to an interoperability request from Microsoft.
The move aims to extend Apple's Universal Clipboard functionality, which currently only supports copying and pasting across Apple's own devices like Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Vision Pro. The new feature will enhance data transfer between Apple and Microsoft ecosystems.
This initiative is a direct result of the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA). The regulation requires major technology companies, referred to as gatekeepers, to ensure their systems are interoperable with third-party tools and services.
The DMA aims to foster greater competition and user choice within digital markets. Apple is expected to implement further interoperability measures across its services in the EU as a result of the regulation.
