Apple has enhanced its Shortcuts application on iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS 17, adding more than 35 new or improved actions. The most significant update centers on the "Use Model" command, which now allows the use of enhanced Apple Intelligence models and access to the latest information via the web.
The update introduces new automation triggers, including notifications, keyboard connections, and screenshot saving. Users can now perform a wider range of actions within the Messages app, such as sending Tapback replies, marking messages as read, and deleting conversations or threads. Enhancements also extend to Reminders, VPN management, and Photo app functionalities.
The "Use Model" action has seen significant improvements, now supporting Apple Intelligence models and the ability to retrieve real-time data from the internet. This opens up new possibilities for creating dynamic and context-aware automated workflows. Additionally, the "If" conditional action has been expanded to include "else if" logic, enabling more complex decision-making within shortcuts.
The Shortcuts editor also receives updates, including the ability to create shortcuts using natural language descriptions. Automation features are now directly integrated into the editor and synchronize across devices. Existing shortcuts will automatically generate summaries using Apple Intelligence, improving usability and understanding.
