Apple Highlights iOS 27 Parental Controls in New Video

Apple is drawing attention to the new parental control features integrated into its upcoming iOS 27 operating system through a newly released promotional video. The update aims to provide parents with more robust tools to manage their children's device usage and online safety.

The iOS 27 enhancements cover a range of areas, including app access, web browsing, contact management, and screen time limits. Parents will have the ability to select specific categories of apps that children can access, offering a more nuanced approach to content filtering. Apple stated that the setup process for child accounts and the management of their settings have been simplified for easier understanding.

New functionalities are being introduced to manage app downloads and in-app purchases. Children can request access to new apps or games, which will prompt a notification to the parent for approval through a "Ask Before Buying" feature. This extends to in-app purchases as well. For web browsing, Safari includes a "Ask Before Browsing" option, allowing parents to grant or deny access to specific websites.

Communication safety features are also being bolstered. The Messages app and FaceTime will incorporate updated communication safety tools designed to detect and block the display of photos and videos containing sensitive content, such as nudity or violence. Parents can also configure restrictions on who their children can contact via phone calls and messages, with these settings managed centrally through the family sharing account.

Screen Time management receives additional capabilities, including time limits and scheduling options. Parents can set specific rules for app usage based on date, hour, and activity, or restrict access during school hours. The system also allows for temporary pauses in device access, facilitating family time like dinners.
