Apple HomeKit Cameras Add AI Features for Monthly Fee
Apple Home is introducing AI-powered features for HomeKit Secure Video, requiring a monthly subscription for new capabilities like video summaries and search.

Apple Home is adding artificial intelligence features to its HomeKit Secure Video service, with costs starting at $9.99 per month. The new capabilities, released with iOS 27 and tvOS 27, provide AI-generated text summaries of events captured by compatible security cameras.
These new functions include automated video summaries that briefly describe who or what was detected by the camera, along with a new video search feature. Users can also combine footage from multiple cameras into a single clip, simplifying home monitoring without the need to scroll through lengthy recordings.
These AI-driven enhancements are part of the 'Apple Intelligence for Home' package. Access requires a minimum 2TB iCloud Plus subscription, priced at $9.99 monthly. This move indicates Apple's strategy to integrate AI more deeply into its ecosystem, including home automation.
While Apple has not disclosed all pricing tiers, advanced services could reportedly reach up to $60 per month. This subscription model aligns with a broader industry trend of charging separately for AI-enhanced functionalities across devices and services.
