Apple HomeView Requires iPhone for Video Streaming

Apple's HomeView smart display does not natively support a range of the company's own entertainment applications, including Apple TV, Apple Music Classical, and Apple News Plus. Users must utilize an iPhone via AirPlay to stream content from these services through the HomeView device.

While Apple's marketing promotes HomeView as an ideal way to enjoy audio and video entertainment, many of these features require a separate iPhone connection and control. Although HomeView is primarily designed as a hub for smart home devices, competing hardware like Amazon's Echo Show and Google's Nest Hub offer native support for popular streaming services without needing a phone connection.

Apple's own specifications confirm that applications such as Apple TV, Apple Books audiobooks, Apple Music Classical, and Apple News Plus are not directly supported on the smart display. This means that using these services is contingent on streaming the content from an iPhone.

This limitation potentially places HomeView at a disadvantage compared to rivals that provide a more integrated and independent streaming experience directly from the device.
