Apple integrates generative AI into iWork productivity suite

Apple has updated its iWork productivity suite to include integrated artificial intelligence capabilities. The new tools, which utilize both internal models and technology from OpenAI, are designed to assist users with document drafting, presentation design, and complex data organization.

In Keynote, the software now automates slide composition and animation based on document context. Users working in Pages can leverage the assistant to restructure and rewrite existing text, while the Numbers application gains functionality for automated table building and chart visualization.

The update also includes support for the Model Context Protocol on macOS 27 and later. This integration allows third-party AI agents to interface directly with Apple's productivity software, signaling a shift toward more interoperable office ecosystems.

By embedding these features, Apple aims to increase the utility of its local office software in a market increasingly dominated by cloud-based AI competitors. These tools are currently being rolled out as part of the latest macOS update cycle.
