Apple introduces M6 chip with more cores and AI capabilities

Apple has announced a new M6 chip for Macs, alongside the M5 Ultra, which the company describes as its "most powerful chip ever." These chips are designed for demanding tasks such as 3D rendering and running advanced AI models.

The M6 chip is Apple's first to utilize a 2-nanometer manufacturing process, promising improvements in both performance and power efficiency. It also incorporates a "Dual 16-core Neural Engine" for on-device AI workloads.

The M6 features a 12-core CPU, an increase from the 10 cores in the previous M5. This configuration includes two "super cores," four performance cores, and six efficiency cores. Apple's use of "super core" terminology previously referred to performance cores, but the company introduced a new type of performance core starting with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. While the M5 Ultra chip was not detailed further, it is expected to offer significant advancements over the M6. Specific availability details for these new chips in Apple's product lineup have not yet been released.
