Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max GPU Performance Exceeds Official Claims in Testing
Third-party tests indicate Apple's new iPhone 18 Pro Max, powered by the A20 Pro chip, delivers significantly higher GPU performance than officially stated, particularly in demanding games.

Independent benchmarks suggest that Apple's latest iPhone 18 Pro Max, equipped with the A20 Pro chip, offers superior graphics processing power compared to its predecessor, potentially exceeding the company's own performance claims. While Apple advertised up to a 40% GPU performance increase with the A20 Pro chip over the A19 Pro, recent third-party testing reveals even more substantial gains.
Tests conducted by YouTube channel Dame Tech, comparing the iPhone 18 Pro Max against the iPhone 17 Pro Max using AAA titles like "Resident Evil 4 Remake" and "Assassin's Creed Shadows," showed average frame rates in "Resident Evil 4 Remake" increasing by 50.3%. The 1% Lows metric, which reflects frame rate stability during demanding moments, saw an even more impressive rise of 77.3% for the A20 Pro chip.
In "Assassin's Creed Shadows," which has a 30 FPS cap, the A20 Pro chip still demonstrated an 18.6% higher average frame rate compared to the A19 Pro. This indicates that the performance improvements translate to smoother gameplay even under artificial limitations.
The findings suggest that Apple's A20 Pro chip's real-world graphics capabilities may be substantially higher than the advertised figures. This could offer a tangible benefit for mobile gamers and users engaging in graphically intensive tasks on the new iPhone model.
