Apple iPhone Models Gain Large Language Model Approval in China
Apple's iPhone 15 Pro and later models have received approval for large language models in China, signaling an accelerated rollout of AI features.
Apple's iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, along with subsequent models, have secured registration for large language models (LLMs) in China. The filings, dated September 29, indicate the integration of advanced AI capabilities into the devices for the Chinese market.
The registered LLMs include Apple's own "Apple Intelligence" and Alibaba's "TongYiWanXiang" and "TongYiQianWen" models. This aligns with Apple's previous statements that "Apple Intelligence" would support iPhone 15 Pro models and newer.
Notably, the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models were not included in these updated filings. The inclusion of Alibaba's models suggests a strategic partnership to enhance AI services for Chinese users.
Alibaba has stated that its "TongYiQianWen" model will be integrated into "Apple Intelligence," providing users with capabilities such as text and image understanding and content generation directly on their devices. This development is expected to expedite the availability of AI-powered features on iPhones in China.
