Apple launches developer beta for AI tools in China with Qwen model support
Apple has begun testing its AI suite in mainland China via iOS 27.3, featuring integration with Alibaba’s Qwen model for local functionality.

Apple initiated the testing of its AI-integrated tools in mainland China on November 4, following the release of the iOS 27.3 developer beta. The update allows developers with compatible devices to access specific system-level AI features, preceding a broader public release anticipated in December.
The beta includes writing support, live translation, photo editing, and automated notification summaries. Crucially, the system utilizes Alibaba’s Qwen model to power Siri, text generation, and image understanding capabilities, tailoring the AI experience to the local market's requirements.
While this rollout marks a shift in strategy for the region, it remains limited in scope. Several features originally announced at WWDC 2026, including next-generation Siri functionalities, are excluded from the current test build.
