Apple Limits In-Store iPhone Duo Sales on Launch Day Due to Shortages

Apple is directing retail store employees to discourage walk-in customers without appointments from visiting on the iPhone Duo launch day, citing production issues impacting initial availability.

18 October 2026

Apple has instructed its retail store employees to advise customers without reservations not to visit Apple Stores on the launch day for the new iPhone Duo, October 23. This directive stems from significant production challenges that are limiting initial availability.

According to reports, staff are to inform customers that devices will likely not be available for walk-in purchases on launch day. Employees are expected to actively dissuade individuals without pre-orders from coming to the stores.

Apple's online store indicates that customers can check for in-store pickup availability again on October 24. The initial pre-order window, which included in-store pickup options, was closed shortly after opening.

Apple has stated to the Financial Times that market demand is "unprecedentedly strong" and the company is working to expedite shipments. Deliveries for the iPhone Duo are scheduled to begin on October 23, with a starting price of 15,999 yuan in China.
