Apple MacBook Neo Replacing Windows and Chromebooks in U.S. Schools
Apple reports that its MacBook Neo laptops are rapidly gaining traction in U.S. K-12 education, displacing a significant number of Windows and Chromebook devices.
Apple has reported significant adoption of its MacBook Neo laptops within the U.S. K-12 education market, with the devices increasingly replacing Windows laptops and Google Chromebooks. The company highlighted this trend during its third-quarter fiscal year 2026 earnings call.
Several large school districts have initiated transitions to MacBook Neo. Notably, Pinellas County Schools in Florida, one of the state's largest districts, is migrating 25,000 students across 18 high schools from Windows devices. In Washington state, Peninsula School District has transitioned 8,000 students away from Chromebooks to MacBook Neo.
Data indicates that half of the MacBook Neo purchases by U.S. schools last quarter were intended as replacements for existing Windows or Chromebook hardware. Furthermore, Mid-Del School District in Oklahoma has acquired over 6,000 MacBook Neo units, consolidating student devices within Apple's ecosystem.
This trend builds on the established suitability of Apple devices for education, exemplified by the MacBook Air M1. Previous models demonstrated durability and consistent performance for academic tasks, establishing a precedent that educational laptops can be both robust and performant, challenging the notion that such devices must be low-spec or cheaply built.
