Apple is now allowing businesses in the United States and Canada to reserve advertising space within its Apple Maps application. This move expands Apple's advertising offerings, enabling local businesses to promote their services directly within the popular mapping tool. Reservations are now open for placements that will feature in search results and suggested locations.

The new advertising opportunities will appear in two primary areas of Apple Maps. Firstly, businesses may be featured in a "Suggested Places" section before a user initiates a search. Secondly, ads can appear directly within the search results after a user has entered their query. Apple has stated that these paid placements will be clearly distinguished from organic search results, maintaining transparency for users.

To incentivize early adoption, Apple is offering a limited-time promotion for eligible businesses. Those who reserve Apple Maps ads and pay via credit card before October 11 can receive a monthly bill credit of 15% of their ad spend, capped at $1,000 per month for up to 12 months. This initiative is managed through the Apple Business platform, which allows businesses to claim their locations and manage ad campaigns.

Apple emphasized that Apple Maps advertising adheres to its strict privacy standards. Ad interactions will not be linked to a user's Apple ID, and personal data will remain on the user's device. Ad targeting will rely on contextual information such as search terms, approximate device location, and the currently viewed map region, rather than precise location data or historical activity. The service is initially available to businesses in the US and Canada.
