Apple Redesigning Mac Lineup Amid High AI Demand

Apple is set to redesign a significant portion of its Mac computer lineup to address a surge in demand for artificial intelligence (AI) computing power. Reports indicate that demand, particularly from users running AI agents locally on Mac mini and Mac Studio models, has outstripped supply, causing delivery delays of up to three months for some orders.

The anticipated model updates are slated to commence this fall with the release of new iMacs and a refreshed entry-level MacBook Pro. Later this year and into early next, Apple is expected to launch new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. These high-end configurations will feature, for the first time on a Mac, a touchscreen and an OLED display.

The recent rise in AI-driven demand has notably impacted Apple's hardware business. The company previously increased Mac prices in June, citing shortages of memory chips that continue to delay shipments. Additionally, Apple is launching a Klarna-backed device leasing program later this month to make its increasingly expensive products more accessible.
