Apple releases 8th-generation iPad mini with OLED display
Apple has updated its 8.5-inch iPad mini, integrating an OLED display and the A20 Pro chip at a starting price of $699.

Apple has introduced the eighth-generation iPad mini, marking a hardware shift for its smallest tablet lineup. The new device features an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, replacing the IPS screen used in previous iterations. The tablet is powered by the A20 Pro processor, the same chip utilized in the company’s recent high-end iPhone models.
The updated model maintains a footprint similar to its predecessor but reduces bezel thickness by 24 percent, allowing for an increased screen area. Apple has also refined the chassis, reducing the thickness to 5.4 mm and introducing an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, a feature absent in the seventh-generation model.
Display performance represents a significant technical change for the series. The screen now supports a peak brightness of 1,200 nits and introduces a 1-nit minimum brightness setting for low-light environments. Consumers also have the option to select a nano-textured matte glass finish for the display.
At a starting price of $699, the device represents a price increase for the product category. The transition to OLED and the inclusion of the A20 Pro chip align the tablet’s performance capabilities more closely with the company's Pro-level hardware offerings.
