Apple Releases First Test Version of Xcode 27.1

Apple has launched the initial beta of Xcode 27.1, a development tool for its software engineers. The update notably adds simulator support for the forthcoming iPhone Duo device.

The release adheres to Apple's previously stated goal of providing necessary development resources by the end of September. With the iPhone Duo's integration expected to take weeks for most applications, early access to these tools is crucial for developers.

Xcode 27.1 requires macOS 26.6 or later on Apple Silicon Macs. It includes an updated SDK for the iPhone Duo, enabling the simulator to accurately reflect the device's folding and unfolding states, as well as screen orientation, aiding in app testing and adaptation.

Apple has indicated that the iPhone Duo will launch with a specific version of iOS 27.1, designed for the new hardware, before synchronizing with other iPhone models in later updates. This Xcode beta allows developers to begin preparing their applications for this new device.
