Apple has issued a new firmware update, version 9B5043a, for a total of eight AirPods models. The update is available in both developer and public beta versions and includes devices such as the AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 5, and AirPods Max 2.

This firmware release coincides with the fourth developer preview of macOS 14.2, iOS 17.2, and iPadOS 17.2. While Apple has not provided specific release notes, it is anticipated that the update primarily focuses on bug fixes and enhancements to the audio experience.

The affected AirPods models are: AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 5 (including the model with a wireless charging case), AirPods Pro 2 (in both Lightning and USB-C variants), AirPods Max 2, and AirPods 4 (including the model with active noise cancellation). All these devices will receive the 9B5043a firmware version.

To install the update, users need to ensure their iPhone, iPad, or Mac is running the latest system software with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled. The AirPods must be placed in their charging case, connected to power, and the case lid should remain closed for at least 30 minutes. The process for AirPods Max 2 involves connecting the device via its charging cable.
